Villa del Parque was founded in 1908 and is located on the lands that were originally part of the Chacarita de los Colegiales (Today Chacarita) populated by Jesuits. When this population left in 1767, the area was covered with weeds and the lands changed owners various times, each time reducing its size until in 1893 when the "Comisión de Parques y Paseos" (Parks and Walks Committee) asked the Intendance to let them for the "Parque del Oeste" (West Park) on 100 hectares. On an area of about 50 blocks, the actual neighborhood was developed, and was for a time called the "Ciudad Feliz" (Happy City) but because of its closeness to the "Parque Agronomico" (Agronomical Park), it changed to "Villa del Parque" (Area of the Park).
On the 8 November, 1908, the neighborhood of Villa del Parque officially became part of the City of Buenos Aires
Today it is a residential, with houses and petit-hotel villas, according to their owner´s tastes. These houses, stand out for being different from the "Chorizo" (sausage) style of houses, of Italian origin, very common in other areas of Buenos Aires.
Now a days it has many not too tall apartment buildings. Villa del Parque isn't an area where the pedestrian is suffocated by the noise, the height of the buildings nor the crowds that go about daily on the streets, something very common in most of Buenos Aires areas. It's one of the few places were you can listen to the birds, smell the flowers and enjoy the shade given by the trees.
There are many passages (small streets) that are characteristic of Villa del Parque. These were the result of dividing blocks in two. This was done so that more and cheaper terrain would be available for construction.
Of course this kind of arranging can make it very pretty and picturesque, but at the same time it turns the whole place into a maze, seeing as how streets and blocks aren't very symmetrical. The streets have slim sideways and trees abound. The slogan of Villa del Parque is "La Villa del Buen Vecino" (The good neighbors area).
