Buenos Aires Real Estate - Español
Saavedra, compared to the more centric areas of the City of Buenos Aires, is one of the largest areas with a lot of space and little population located in the north-west of the city. The area was founded in 1873 by Don Florencio Núñez who was the owner of the lands in the area, and named them in honor of the president of the "Primera Junta de gobierno" (First Gathering of Government) during the "Revolución the Mayo" (May Revolution) in 1810; Cornelio Saavedra.
Saavedra is the only neighborhood in Buenos Aires that was formally founded with a creation act on the 27 of April of 1873 (the Act can currently be seen in the Museo Histórico Municipal Cornelio Saavedra (Municipial Historical Museum Cornelio Saavedra) located inside the Parque General Paz), but the area did not start to get populated until February of 1891 when the train station Luís María Saavedra was inagurated).
The area is situated on high lands and has because of this nice slopes and slides between the General Paz Avenue and "Parque Saavedra" ( Saavedra Square). It is very quite, with streets lined by trees giving Saavedra a calm and very provincial feel to it, divided into three well-defined areas.
Barrio Presidente Mitre (President Mitre Neighborhood): Located behind the Phillips factory, in Corres and Melián, which is a zone of poor housing.
Barrio Presidente Roque Sáenz Peña (President Roque Sáenz Peña Area Neighborhood): Stretching along the street Valdenegro, with big low houses.
Barrio Cornelio Saavedra (Cornelio Saavedra Neighborhood): A residential area with large pretty houses most of them with their own gardens. The place also distinguishes itself by its irregular streets that give it a sophisticated tone of privacy.
The 27th of April is the day of Saavedra in memory of the day that the area was founded.
